About Me

I'm Ryan McGavock, a chartered physiotherapist based in Cardiff with over a decade of NHS experience working with older adults in their homes and communities.
I specialise in balance, mobility and falls prevention — helping people stay independent, confident and safe at home. My background includes working with community falls response services, reablement teams, memory and dementia services, and mental health teams.
I've presented my work at the British Geriatrics Society conference and to the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy.
What matters most to me is taking the time to listen, assess thoroughly, and give you a plan that actually works for your life.
Sessions are unhurried, personalised and take place in your own home.
I work with older adults across Cardiff who are finding that everyday movement is becoming harder, less confident, or less safe. Often the people I see have been managing quietly for a while — and a gentle push in the right direction makes a significant difference. You might benefit from physiotherapy if you or a loved one:
-
Has had a fall, or feels unsteady and worried about falling
-
Is losing confidence with walking, stairs or getting up from chairs
-
Is recovering after a hospital stay, surgery or illness
-
Has been told they have reduced bone density or osteoporosis
-
Is living with a long-term condition affecting movement such as Parkinson's, stroke or arthritis
-
Has noticed a gradual decline in strength, balance or activity levels
-
Wants to stay independent at home for longer
Who I Work With
What a home assessment involves
During your initial visit I'll carry out a thorough assessment of your mobility, balance, strength and coordination — as well as taking a full medical history to understand your background and any relevant conditions. I'll explore what matters most to you personally, setting goals that are meaningful to your life rather than just clinical targets.
I'll also look at your home environment for anything that might be contributing to your risk. You'll receive a clear explanation of my findings and a personalised plan, with realistic goals and a structured programme to work towards them. I can also liaise with your GP, carers or family members if that would be helpful. If you're not sure whether physiotherapy is right for your situation, get in touch — a free phone consultation costs nothing and I'm happy to talk it through.
How Can I Help
All sessions take place in your own home, giving me a true picture of how you move and live - not just how you perform in a clinic.

Home Assessment - £75
A thorough 60-75 minute assessment of your mobility, balance, strength and coordination, plus your home environment and personal goals. You'll leave with a clear plan tailored to you.

Follow-up Sessions - £65
45-60 minutes of focused rehabilitation and progression. Sessions build on each previous visit and adapt to how you're responding and what matters most to you.
